Wojeciech Korfanty fought to protect Poles from discrimination and the policies of Germanisation in Upper Silesia before WWI and sought to join Silesia to Poland after Poland regained its independence (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wojciech_Korfanty). On July 22, 2022, the Polish Sejm adopted a Resolution on establishing the year 2023 as the Year of Wojciech Korfanty (Uchwała Sejmu Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej z dnia 22 lipca 2022 r. w sprawie ustanowienia roku 2023 Rokiem Wojciecha Korfantego).
